Things to do at Macao Beach

Macao Beach is a public beach, open to anyone, which is the point to get straight before booking anything here: it is not one of the private, calm-water stretches lining the resorts a short drive south in Bavaro or Cap Cana. The draw is the open Atlantic swell, so this is a surf and buggy-tour coast rather than a quiet swim.

Surf lessons and rentals cluster near the main access point, and ATV or dune buggy excursions run along the shoreline and inland tracks, typically booked through GetYourGuide or Viator rather than at a fixed walk-up price.

Macao sits north of the main hotel strip, toward the Uvero Alto and Higuey area, so budget noticeably more road time from a Bavaro or Cap Cana hotel than for excursions closer to home.
